Foundational Learning: Inspiring Growth Through the Early Years Foundation Stage

At Rawdatul Atfaal, we follow the Early Years Framework, which encompasses seven key areas of learning. Through these areas, children develop skills, acquire new knowledge, and demonstrate their understanding:

Prime Areas:

  • Communication and Language

  • Physical Development

  • Personal, Social, and Emotional Development

Specific Areas:

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

These seven areas guide our planning for learning and activities, ensuring that each activity is tailored to meet the unique needs of every child.

We believe that the Development Matters curriculum provides a strong foundation for children's learning and development, helping them become confident and capable learners.

The Development Matters curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework for England, which sets out the standards that early years providers must meet to ensure children are thriving, learning, and developing well.

This curriculum is designed to support the holistic development of children, encompassing their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. It is a flexible framework that allows early years practitioners to tailor their teaching to the individual needs of each child. The Development Matters curriculum recognises that all children are unique, with their own learning styles, interests, and abilities.

At Rawdatul Atfaal, we believe that children learn through play. Therefore, our curriculum is implemented through play-based learning, allowing children to explore and discover the world around them. We incorporate child-initiated play as well as some adult-led learning.

Play is a fundamental part of learning as it supports children's curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking skills. It also helps them develop communication and social skills as they learn to interact with others and share ideas.

We use a variety of teaching methods, including observation, interaction, and assessment, to support children's learning and development. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure that children are fully supported both at home and in the nursery
